I’m Dr. DAVID Jeffries

I am so glad you’re here. Looking for a therapist can be a difficult task, but even by looking around this site and seeing how you feel, you are advocating for yourself, and that is so important. I believe psychotherapy should be supported by psychological science and the willingness to try new things. My evidence-based practice takes three elements into account: The latest research, a person’s own values and preferences, and my clinical experience.

Over the past 12 years, I have helped people from diverse backgrounds experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • Insomnia & sleep concerns

  • Trauma

  • Couples & relationship issues

  • Grief

  • Depression

  • Life adjustments

  • Concerns with identity

In my work with you, information is integrated with best practices for clinical care to address mental health concerns and cultivate healthy coping. I also work as needed with other providers, partners, and family members to reinforce a thoughtful plan for treatment. Mindfulness techniques also play a prominent role in my work to reinforce attention to the moment while facing life’s questions and challenges.

Choosing to engage in psychotherapy is courageous and deliberate work. Like all work, it is worthy of a safe space—that safety is something I strive to sustain in our time together as we work through and towards your goals. I welcome you to reach out to see if we might be a fit.

My Training

I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from The George Washington University. I also have a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College, where I studied Japanese language and cultural history under an East Asian Studies major.

I have trained locally at Bellevue Hospital Center, the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and The SoHoCBT + Mindfulness Center. I have advanced training and clinical competence in mental health concerns for LGBTQ+-identifying folks and people of color. I also have years of clinical experience working with military veterans, active law enforcement, and people with a history of psychiatric treatment.
